About the client

Confluence Mind and Motion is a private-practice outpatient mental health clinic in Pittsburgh specializing in sport-related psychotherapy. It offers two services: traditional insurance-based therapy for things like anxiety, depression, and PTSD, and sports psychology for athletes, coaches, and institutions, including team relationship building, performance coaching, and consulting.

Overview

The founder needed a logo that makes Confluence look like what it is: a credentialed, institutional practice, not another hype-driven sports brand. His main competition falls into two camps: sports psychologists who market narrowly around performance, and unlicensed life coaches. Both lean on loud, “winning” visuals that read machismo.

Confluence works differently, using attachment psychology and Internal Family Systems to help athletes perform through real support rather than “coping skills.”

Client Testimonial

“ Tara’s help has literally transformed my business;
what she has designed for me is a triumph. ”

I should start by saying I am a licensed psychotherapist and educated as a social worker. I am an ad-hoc entrepreneur trying to elevate my business from a rinky-dink, passion project to a legitimate mental health business/service provider. Not only do I have complete ignorance of the design process, but I have also absolutely no aptitude, bandwidth, (nor interest) in being a designer!

How Tara was able to design a brand identity for me that so aligned with my values and aesthetic appeal simply amazes me. Tara conducted a working collaboration that was both inviting and participatory in a way I felt accessible to me and my busy schedule. Tara was patient while working with me and explained every step to ensure my understanding. And reciprocally, she was dedicated to understanding the mission and values of my business, and she showed genuine zeal, respect, and enthusiasm about working on my project. I felt as though my work was important to her before we even signed the contract.

Because she took the time to understand me, she aligned her values to mine and made this design project a true integration of my vision and her abilities. Also, not to mention, she was clear and consistent with her communication, as well as fair and clear about her pricing – there were no financial surprises (a true luxury for small businesses working with contracted help). And finally, Tara was thoroughly generous with her time and flexible with her design-direction that was based off of our ongoing conversations and feedback, which explained the meticulousness of her methods. The value of her work speaks most clearly through her designed products – which quite frankly are just really freaking cool. I’m happy to be one of her customers.

My name is Spencer Kilpatrick, and my business is Confluence Mind and Motion, and Tara has given us the face you see. She materialized the brand that Confluence Mind and Motion always was.

10/10 would highly recommend.
